What Remains Of The Embers Of Light

“She makes me lie down in green pastures. She leads me beside quiet waters.”

With each step, the air grew colder and more ominous, the darkness of the night seeming to seep into my bones. I could feel my heart racing as I treaded carefully down the deserted streets, fear and excitement churning in equal measure in my gut. Something felt wrong, something about this place seemed off, but I couldn't help but be drawn to it all the same.

As I rounded a corner and entered an old alleyway, a dark feeling washed over me suddenly, making my skin tingle and my muscles tighten. Was this what they meant by dramatic? An eerily quiet breeze whipped through the alleyway, rustling the trash that littered the ground amidst other sounds that I couldn't quite make out.

“She restores my soul. She guides me in the paths of righteousness.”

For a moment, my mind was filled with thoughts of turning back, but then I heard it: a deep rumbling sound coming from somewhere up ahead. My heart pounding wildly in my chest now, I slowly moved towards the source of the sound until suddenly, there it was before me: a towering figure shrouded entirely in darkness, its face hidden beneath shadows that swirled around it like smoke.

I stood frozen for what felt like forever as this ominous figure regarded me silently from within its shadowy cloak. And then slowly but surely, an evil grin spread across its face and there was no mistaking what had happened next: a chill ran down my spine as this dark thriller came crashing down around me and dragged me into an endless pit of despair from which there would be no escape.
