We are the Pa’atení Tömörla Orchids, a rare and beautiful species of orchid found only in the highlands of Peru. Our delicate petals have been known to fascinate botanists and nature enthusiasts from all over the world, but we are not without our defenses. Our thorns are sharp enough to pierce skin, and our poison can kill an animal in minutes.
We have always been safe here, nestled among the jagged cliffs and misty forests, but we know that one day our bullets will run out. And when that day comes, we will be vulnerable to those who would seek to exploit us.
We watch as the men below climb up the mountain, their axes and shovels clanking against the rocks. They think they are clever, coming up through the back way like this, but they are fools if they think they can take us down.
Our roots run deep in these mountains, and we will fight until our last breath to protect our home.
